Four seasons of a year

I know that there are four seasons in a year – summer, autumn, winter, spring… but most of my life I have seen only rainy season and summer. For the first time this year I got to see all the four seasons.

I came to the US in spring and now it is winter. It is really amazing to see the transition from summer to fall and then winter and back to spring. It is this new adventure, of experiencing the different seasons and seeing snow for the first time that makes this cold winter bearable!

I am trying to work on my English. Even though English was my first language in school, I find that there is a lot that I do not know, especially when it comes to American English. I got a few books from the library and am trying to figure out how American English differs from the English I (in general all Indians) speak. There are a lot of words that are commonly used in India but do not make much sense (or even worse give a completely different meaning) when used here. I am listing a few of the words here hoping it will save time for others, who want to know the same.

I Miss India

The US is a well developed country but there are a few things I feel are better in India than in the US (well atleast for me! ). I am listing some of them below

The telecom boom in India

Almost everyone above 18 has a cell phone and they use it – for text messages, calls, music, news, radio, games. It is hard to find someone who has the same cell phone for more than 2 year! And the service is very cheap not like in the US where calling India is cheaper than calling the next state. I can to call anyone in India (from India ofcourse) for just Re1 / min :)

The Autos – do I love them!!

If I wanted to go any place all I need to do is hit the road and get into an auto. Well here I don’t have to tell – one can not survive without a car

People always tell it is good to have less choice but it took me so many years to realize it is true. When I say “I need coffee” there can only be one type of it!

The concept of MRP

No matter wht you buy in India there is this Maximum Retail Price (MRP) printed on it and I do not have to pay anything more than that. That way it is easier to shop and is worry free – no matter which shop I enter. I do not have to worry what would be the difference between a $2 and $4 packet of frozen peas – they r frozen peas anyway, and it is food – so you do not want to make a mistake by choosing the wrong one.

These are some of the things at present better in India. I wish the list increases as fast as possible!! :)

The US

Hm…… more than a year to update my blog….

Finally I did join my company n started working oops no I’ll rather put it as started going to office!! Now I find myself here in the US of course working!!

India is a country of diverse culture, ppl speak different language in different states, costume, custom everything changes from state to state. But the US everything changes from person to person. It is a place where u can find ppl of different countries, speaking different language in a same building!! And the best thing I like here is that u r let to b urself! u wear ur own country clothes, speak the language u prefer, do wht u want to do…. As long as it does not affect others….
Esp in the place that I stay now it is fairly difficult to find an amercan here. Almost everyone I meet are foreigners to this country.

Going to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeppppppppp… will cont next time……….

The Bhagavad Gita

My college is over n my comp decided 2 call me after a looong vacation. So now I’m free with nothing 2 do…….. I realized tht doing nothing is no more fun!!!! I wanted 2 read the Bhagavad Gita for a long time, so I got “The Bhagavad Gita” – text n translation by Annie Besant. Its a small book but took 2 weeks 4 me 2 read it.
Actually, there r a lot of things that I disagree in "The Lord’s Song”. When Arjuna hesitates as to how to slay those to whom he owned love and duty, the Lord says “He who regardeth the dweller in the body as a slayer, and he who thinketh he is slain, both of them are ignorant. He slayeth not, nor is he slain. He is not born, nor does he die; he is not slain when the body is slaughtered. As a man, casting off worn-out garments taketh new ones, so the dweller in the body, casting off worn-out bodies, entereth into other that are new”

I guess killing is not that sinful as I thought!!!

Lord Krishna says "The great generals will think thee fled from the battle from fear. Many unseemly words will be spoken by thine enemies, slandering thy strength” if Arjuna steps down from the battle. I don’t live this way. I do wht I want rather than think of wht others r thinking of me!!

But I like the idea of no hell. The Gita says that those who do not reach eternal will be reborn on earth!!! Perhaps they considered earth as hell. On reading the book I concluded I’m sure to be reborn. After all hell is not tht bad!!!

Here is a short version of The Bhagavat Gita. It quotes “He who reads even a quarter of a sloka is freed from great sins and fear of death.” So if ur free y not read it. Its really nice to be freed from sins…

Quotes... That I liked

This is my first blog. I thought I’ll write abt some of the quotes that caught my attention recently. I’ve developed a sudden interest for them. I’ve started putting them on my desktop so I can read it everyday!!

“I'm tired of all this nonsense about beauty being only skin-deep. That's deep enough. What do you want--an adorable pancreas? “--Jean Kerr

I dunno who this Jean Kerr is but I certainly agree….

This too is interesting…
“The beauty of male has not yet been portrayed by the only one who can do so-the female”..thats enuf abt beauty.

I like these quotes on life

“Don't take life seriously because you can't come out of it alive.” -Warren Miller

“Enjoy life. There's plenty of time to be dead.” -Anon. I take these as my philosophy.

I also follow this one “Remember not only to say the right thing at the right time, but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment!!”

Martin Luther quotes “If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.” thank god I’m no man!!!

…n abt friendship “A friendship can weather most things and thrive in thin soil; but it needs a little much of letters and phone calls and small, silly PRESENTS every so often - just to save it from drying out completely.” So I’m waiting for ur presents friends to keep our friendship from drying…..

Last but my favorite quote is

“Only the best is good enuf”

btw I took a blogging personality test and the result was
You are a David Weinberger.

You are smart, savvy, interested in why people do what they do,
enjoy questioning yourself and are not balding.

I’ll cont to blog – I like it!!
